In 1938, electric power was a rare luxury in rural Texas. Local leaders formed Wood County Electric Cooperative to make it a reality. Our non-profit co-op’s goal was to provide affordable power to residents. With support from the federal Rural Electrification Agency, the first leaders enrolled 1,100 members at $5 each.
